OCR: The Hubble Space Telescope is named after Edwin Hubble. It orbits the Earth above the atmosphere giving it a clearer view of the universe than Earth telescopes. Telescopes are instruments that make objects appear nearer. Binoculars, telephoto lenses, theodolites (surveyors' instruments) are specialty telescopes. The word telescope was derived from two Greek words tele, meaning 'at a distance,' and scopein, meaning 'to observe.'
